All local musicians! You know them from their performances around town. This is a unique opportunity for you to hear them play in a concert setting. From a more classical vibe, to a Brazilian Bossa, moving through many eras of jazz for a diverse, surprising experience of jazz in every style.

On Saturday, June 1, the Marcus Duke Project will perform at the Methow Valley Community Center, in Twisp Cindy Williams Gutierrez will recite several poems with band accompaniment. Also, Greg Goad and Will Lone will play an opening set.

The Project—Marcus Duke (keyboards), George Schneider (flute), Dave Nolet (acoustic bass, guitar and vocals) and Jason Russell (drums)—interprets tunes from the great diaspora of jazz—including bebop, gospel, blues, modern jazz, world music and free jazz—bringing a unique perspective from our collective improvisational approach. Enjoy the magic we create together from our love of music, where the journey never ends. Peace!

The Community Center is a wonderful place to hear live music, with excellent acoustics, a fine grand piano, and attentive audiences. It’s also a great venue for some of the more subtle and nuanced music in the Project’s repertoire. Marcus said, “We look forward to performing compositions that we rarely get to do elsewhere.”

For the concert, the Project will perform several Brazilian bossas, featuring Dave on guitar and vocals interpreting a classic Jobim tune.

Marcus is a classically trained pianist who incorporates the classical “vibe” in his keyboard perambulations. For the concert, he will perform Fred Hersch’s “Pastorale,” which embodies a classical ethos and improvisation!

The Project will also perform several of Marcus’ original compositions, ranging from an introspective homage to musicians that came before us to a lively number that pays tribute to South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim.

Will Lone and Greg Goad opening:

Will Lone (drums) and Greg Goad (electric guitar) will perform a highly improvised set that incorporates eclectic original material and re-workings of recognizable favorites—a musical smorgasbord with American roots accented by flavors from around the world.
